When we think of yeast, we generally associate this with a harmless organism used in preparing our foods and beverages. These would be either bakers yeast, found in anything from bread to pie crusts, or brewers yeast, found in beer, wine, and other alcoholic drinks. Most of us have enjoyed these items to some extent and have heard that these yeasts contain vitamins and minerals, which they do.

However, scientists and doctors are now recognizing that all yeasts are not harmless. The most pathologic yeast now influencing the ill-health of millions of people is Candida Albicans. Candida is a yeast found in all parts of our environment. However, it favors the human body, principally the gastrointestinal tract or the urogenital tract, predominately the mucous lining of these areas. It colonizes there and spreads throughout the body, often into the liver, pancreas, and colon. In healthy individuals Candida is kept in check or symbiosis with other organisms that live inside us. A strong, healthy immune system stands guard in us to prevent all organisms from becoming pathological. In unhealthy individuals Candida lives and flourishes, literally eating a person from the inside out.

The common medical procedure to combat candida is nystatin, an anti-fungal, and antibiotics which act to supress it. Once these medications are discontiinued the yeast thrives again, unchecked. The toxins from this 'bug' begin to weaken the immune system, and over a period of time totally debilitate the individual.

Until recedntly diet was not considered a relevant factor in controlling candida. Howver, nutritionists and doctors are now recognizing that diet plays a major role in controlling yeast. It has been found that following a wholesome diet, i.e. eliminating sweets, bread containing yeast, tomatoes, citrus, cheese, coffee, tea, and alcohol for a short period of time while taking acidophilus cultures to re-implant beneficial flora, will in most cases, pu candida back into its symbiotic place in the body. This should be a common practice when using anti-biotics, steriods, birth control pills, and other medications since these drugs weaken the immune system. Unfortunately, it is often overlooked. Instead a poor diet is maintained and candida proliferates. This further weakens the immune system allowing other fungi and organisms to invade the body and at the same time protecting the candida.

This is often why people work for years and years, doing everything imaginable to control their yeast yet getting no results. Other organisms are in the body acting as a toxic focus and protecting candida through a symbiotic relationship. The dominant organisms must be cleard first, then the candida will clear practically on its own.

The principle organs effected by yeast are the liver, colon, and the pancreas. Until these organs are strengthened candida and other pathogens will not clear.
