Nutritional information regarding sleeplessness

Nervousness has many causes. They include low blood sugar, a dro pin calcium, magnesium deficiency, unconscious anxieties and fears and a lack of almost any of the B-complex factors, each of which is essential to normal nerve function. Seeking relief from nervousness and anxieties with tranquilizing drugs doesn't get at the heart of the matter and , in the long run, will only serve to make the condition worse.

Barbituates and other tranquilizers interfere with calcium utilization, and long term use aggravates insomnia, tension, and convulsions because less calcium is available to reduce irritability of the nerves and muscles. Remember, a calcium deficiency may already be the cause of the condition.

True insomnia is a total lack of sleep which rarely occurs. The term is generally used to describe difficulty in falling asleep, in staying asleep, or having restless sleep. The Journal of the American Medical Association reported that with patients who had been taking sleep-inducing drugs for months or years the drugs apparently became ineffective. However, drug-withdrawal insomnia keeps the patients dependent on their particular drug.
