Natural herbal formula to relieve excessive menstrual bleeding

Excessive menstrual bleeding is a common female complaint that my be entirely prevented taking proper nutritional measures. This formula is composed of those nutritional and herbal factors with a proven positive effect in reducing and preventing excessive menstrual flow.

Excessive menstraul blood flow is referred to as menorrhagia and is defined as a blood loss of greater than 80 ml during the normal menstrual cycle. Many factors can cause menorrhagia. Common nutritional cause include : iron deficiency, vitamin A deficiency, vitamin C and bioflavonoid deficiency, and vitamin K deficiency. These factors and herbal therapy of menorrhagia are discuessed below.

IRON DEFICIENCY:

Iron supplementation has been recommended to women of child-bearing age as a prevention against menorrhagia. This recommendation is based on the observation that chronic iron deficiency may actually be a cause of menorrhagia as well as result of blood loss. A positive feedback cycle develops. Low levels of iron in the endometrium leads to excessive menstrual blood loss which further reduces tissue stores of iron. Since iron-containing enzymes in the endometrium are depleted before iron deficiency anemia develops, the absence of anemia does not insure adequate tissue stores of iron.

In women with existing menorrhagia, iron supplementation has been shown to be an effective treatment. During double-blind placelo-controlled trials, 75% of the women tested experienced decreased blood loss. Iron supplementation is probably the single most important component in treating and preventing menorrhagia.

VITAMIN A

In one study, serum vitamin A levels were found to be significantly lower in women with menorrhagia. Restoration of normal vitmain A levels resulted in complete relief or significant improvement in 92% of the women tested in this study.

VITAMIN C AND BIOFLAVONOIDS:

Capillary fragility is believed to play a major role in many cases of menorrhagia. Supplementation with a vitamin C/bioflavonoid complex was shown to reduce menorrhagia in 14 of 16 patients participating in one study.

HERBAL THERAPY

Numerous herbs have been used in the treatment of menorrhagia. The platn with the greatest efficacy, however, is Shepherd's purse (Capsella bursa pastoris). Its long history iof use in the relief of menorrhagia and other gynecological bleeding disorders has been validated in clinical trials.

Often menorrhagia and other menstrual abnormalities are caused by an increase in estrogen levels. If this appears to be the case, following ingredients are used in proper quantity

Iron (Aspartate)

Vitamin A (Fish liver oil)

Vitamin C (w/rose hips)

Bioflavonoids (mixed citrus 50% concentration)

Phylloquinone K1

Extr Caspella (4:1) (shepherd's purse)
